No comment needed. As always, your writing is wonderful. I think you should post this on the archive as one of those gems which will shine well into the future.

I also noticed that the old updater link is working quite well now; what was wrong with it anyway. I guess the best course of action would be to have two interfaces.

1 - One with all of the latest technologies.

2 - One which is a lite version, much like my hacked XP boxes and super-restricted Microshit registry.

After all; this would give the volunteers (who should be the main concern of the Archive management) the ability to choose how to optimize their Uploading experience.

I and I am sure others would be happy to maintain such an interface at no cost to the Archive; but not a word has been uttered concerning this. Think of that, a no cost offer which would not hurt the system one bit. If I can scan, catalog and upload over 500 items (if I counted the multivolume items, the number would be much greater) all in the last 6 months while lying in my bed in a hospital; what is the problem with making a system work better in order to make that job easier.

What about people with disabilities or problems with low bandwidth access; do you force them to use an up loader which makes their life even more difficult than it already is?

My solution would be the above approach coordinated with simplified tutorials which would help people who want to contribute, but may not have the technical skills to hack their way to a better way. I guess I will post a soup to nuts tutorial with screen shots from start to finish; it seems to work fine for my organization. What surprises me is how ignorant people with an MS degree in Library Science can be when it comes to actually doing Library work in the Digital Realm. But then again, my entrance into the Library arena came from the Engineering world, one where I would receive all kinds of crap heaped upon me if I made such stupid (engineers would call them sub-optimal) decisions.

I will end with this:

and finally this:

I suspect Tracey took down the IA for some hours yesterday while she restored the old up-load system, it seems our postings on the forum sounded like good common sense and logical thinking to her.

Or she realised, she had no choice left, she never expected our screams of frustration.

And my successful upload was on the old system.

And where is Tracey? Hiding in embarrassment?

Tracey, all is forgiven.
